Both Leona and I are very excited about the opportunity to take a pilgrimage to Israel--to walk where Jesus walked and see the places where he taught and preached. It is still very difficult for me to imagine that in a few hours I will be leaving for the Holy Land. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would have such an opportunity. I remember looking at photographs of people floating on the Dead Sea in my History Books in Middle School in the same way that I looked at pictures of astronauts on the moon--it looked interesting, but I never thought that I would go there.
I cannot even count how many times I have had to draw a map of Israel for classes in college or seminary and now I am blessed with the opportunity to see these maps come to life.
I have no idea what this experience will be like. I do not know how it will change me or my readings of the Bible. All I know is that I feel truly blessed for the opportunity and hope that I can remain open to what God needs for me to see, touch and understand in this special place.
Leona and I will (hopefully) be posting on this blog our thoughts, pictures and videos so that you can see Israel with us. Please keep us in your prayers and know that you will be in ours.
